Since 2018’s landmark Wayfair Supreme Court case, state legislatures across the U.S. have been working toward capturing revenue from remote sellers in their tax bases. Predictably, some have moved faster than others, but 2022 saw some key milestones for sales tax across state lines, and on the digital marketplace in general.
As of January 1, 2023, all 50 states have economic nexus laws for sales tax in effect, and Kentucky is the latest state to begin taxing SaaS. And those are just a few of the sales tax dynamics that have changed for SaaS businesses in the past year.
